Well the first two days of Rome Adam had meetings, so I was off on my own. I wanted to hit the train station first (Grand Termini) to find a good street map and public transit map. I went down the wrong street at some point and ended up wandering my way to the Piazza Spagna (the Spanish Steps). Which worked out pretty good since the next item on my list of things to do was SHOP! And a ton of the shopping was right in front of the Spanish Steps. So at that point I figured I’ll just shop and find the train station later. I took off for the main shopping streets, Via Del Corso, Via Condotti, Via Nazionale, and all the streets in between. I was working my way down Via Del Corso thinking it ends pretty close to the train station, so I can kill two birds with one stone. Well the street ended and where I was did not look like the train station. So I pulled out my map and checked the enormous monument and buildings in front of me. Yep I had gone the wrong way again. I was at Piazza del Popolo. Completely North of the city! So I just turned around and headed back. By this time it was close to 1pm and I was starving. I had no breakfast and no coffee because I was so full from our dinner at 10pm the night before. I made my way back to our hotel district and found a snack shop to hangout and get some lunch in. I ordered a pruscuitto pizza and it was amazing! All fresh made and gooey and wonderful. I ate the whole thing and proud of it! Then headed over to the hotel to lay down. I did far too much walking in 100 degree heat and needed some air conditioning. Adam’s group had a tour of the vatican planned at 3pm so I thought I might be able to catch him before he left. My phone wasn’t working so we had no form of communication, which bothered both of us. With my blonde hair I definitely stand out like a sore thumb. After he left and my nap in the air conditioning =) I headed back to Via del Nazionale to catch more affordable shopping. Because everyone can shop at Gucci, Prada, Versace, and Louis Vuitton...just to name a few. The more affordable is not at the spanish steps. Those are the window shopping area’s =)
The Spanish Steps
So FINALLY I found Via del Nazionale and window shopped for awhile then finally stumbled upon the train station. I was completely unsuccessful at finding a map of the city and the information line was probably about an hour wait which I was not for. So I just meandered around for awhile while eating Gelato of course and took some pictures of the Piazza Del Repubblica. This was an interesting place to get some pictures. There is a round about for all the cars with a huge fountain in the middle. To get to said fountain you must cross the crazy italian traffic. Sounds easy...well it’s not. The rules of driving for italians are more of a suggestion than actual rules they follow. When a break came I took off and ran across the road. Of course a scooter of all things comes whipping around and about took me out but otherwise a successful run. I took some pictures around the piazza and then had the dreaded task of attempting to run back across the road without getting hit by all the tour buses. Success again! After that I had had enough for the day. Between getting lost in the heat, and my death run I was ready to sit down and relax. So I headed back to the hotel to hangout and wait for Adam. He didn’t show up till about 1am. Out with the group and dinner’s run really really long in Italy.
Below you can see the street roundabout...good luck!
