Sorrento and Positano

Day two of our trip started off slow. We all decided to sleep in a little  and then cook a normal american breakfast...eggs and bacon!! The weather was so so and we were supposed to head to Capri for a boat ride. We were able to change it to tuesday so we all got cleaned up and headed to Positano for the day.

We drove down the Amalfi Coast on that lovely 2 lane highway. It was probably one of the most interesting drives we have done. Italian drivers are true to their name CRAZY!! They are all on vespas weaving in and out of traffic, even on this small highway along a very steep cliff. At one point there was a gated off part and it was a one lane road. We couldn't see around the bend so we just went around and hoped for the best. Well it was a rock avalanche all up on our side of the road. It even busted out the guard rail. No body was around directing traffic..nothing just go as you please around the rocks.

Another thing about driving on this road, there is no where to turn around. There are cars parked everywhere and you can really just drive through but turning around is not so easy to do. So we ended up just driving through the town and parked outside of town along the road like everyone else was.

You can kind of see the road ahead and see how crazy it is

We walked back into town and along that walk we saw some of the most beautiful shots of the city. You could see the town up on the cliffs. The miles of beautiful dark blue and teal water. You could look down the cliffs on the side of the road and see houses and private beaches.

We got into town and walked around trying to work our way down to the beach. You would think that's easy...but it's not! We ended up in a junk yard and then back tracked until we found a path that would lead us there. Before we got all the way there we were distracted by the smell of pizza. So we decided to share a pizza and wine for an afternoon snack. The pizza was delicious, proscuitto, zucchini, and halved tomatoes. Plus the restaurant had a great view of the beach. It worked out well because clouds came and passed while we ate and then it was blue skies and sunshine when we were done.

Such a great pizza
The view from our lunch spot...the sun is back!
Next is beach time. The beach is all stones and really clear water, so beautiful. The larger stones were easy to walk on and you could mold it around you like a little sun chair. As you get in the water it's more small stones that feel like your feet are getting stabbed with needles...not as pleasant. The water was also really cold so we just ended up laying in the big rocks most of the time, talking and basking in our scenery.

You can get a good idea of the rocks here, they were really warm and comfortable to relax in

After our lovely little excursion on the beach we walked around the pier and the boys had to hangout in the most dangerous place...where the water splashes up from the wake. They also like all boys looked around and found a dead fish to look at.

We walked up and around the entire city just to get more views and see what is there.

Finally ending our night at Buca di Bacco, a restaurant with probably the best view in town. There was nobody there and we had the balcony to ourselves. It was a perfect and relaxing way to end our night in Positano.
