Sorrento and Capri

Today is Capri!! We headed out early and caught the ferry to Capri.

Once we landed at the port of Capri we immediately found Wendi of Whales, our tour company, and got started. She was so nice and showed us to a butcher shop that has been making sandwiches for 50 years. We got our lunch, hopped on the boat, and were off for our 3 hour cruise.

Roberto was our tour guide and he was fantastic. He took us around the first set of cliffs and through the narrow passages, between the rocks.

Roberto weaved his way forward and then to the left through the rocks.

Then Roberto stopped and let us jump in and swim. The water was so cold it actually took our breath away. They also provided goggles for us so we were able to swim around and look at all the rocks and fish below. The water is crystal clear so it was very easy to see 15 feet blow where the floor of the sea is. Adam was swimming around and saw something in the distance so he started swimming towards it. A few meters in he realized he should probably stop, it was a jellyfish! The jelly fish was between all of us and the boat so we had to be creative and follow Roberto's instructions to get back to it.
Swimming!!

Unfortunately as we started getting closer Adam saw another one pop up right in front of us. So more maneuvering had to happen. Finally we were able to get all 4 of us back in the boat without any stings. We were watching the water while we dried off and more and more jelly fish kept popping up. Apparently they hangout there!! Also, while we were watching the water Andy and I heard this loud pop pop pop and looked over. A stream of seagulls flew by and laid out a huge line of bird poo in the water right where we had been swimming. Glad we got out of there in time!!

Another Cave

We took off again around the island and saw so many beautiful sights. Roberto took us in and out of caves, the green grotto, through the white grotto, and past the champagne spout. The Champagne spout is outside of the green grotto and it's a hole in the rock where the water gets pushed in, when the waves come in, and then shoots water out the top of the rock like a champagne bottle. Roberto thought it would be funny to get us a little closer than normal and he soaked all of us. It was very cool...and very cold!!

We kept going around the rest of the island and went swimming in another area, without jelly fish around. Then our 3 hour tour came to an end. This tour was probably the highlight of our trip. It was so beautiful and so relaxing to just rest on the sunbeds of the boat and ride around the island. No crowds in sight, nobody pushing to get a picture in front of you, just quiet and the sound of the waves.

We had to head back to Sorrento via ferry. We were then able to hit the grocery store for steaks for dinner that night. The men figured out the grill and took care of the meat, while Katie and I made the appetizers. We ate and hung out on our deck looking over at the sunset across the bay of Sorrento. It was so quiet and so relaxing. It was the perfect place to enjoy time with our friends and our trip in Southern Italy.
