Busy Season is OVER!!!!
Adam finally finished up on busy season last week and he was ready to get away. We knew we were heading out of town to ski soon so we opted for just a day trip...but to where??? Final decision was Strasbourg, France. Adam took off friday and we caught the train. It's only a couple of hours and you are there. Once we arrived we started heading for the main platz in the city. There is a gorgeous church there, Strasbourg Cathedral de Notre- Dame. It was absolutely gorgeous. It reminded me of the Duomo in Milan we saw last year with Adam's parents.

After wandering around the city for a couple of hours it was time for lunch. We had looked up a few places to go the night before and had our list. We started finding them and not loving the menu but finally one looked exceptionally good so we went in. The restaurant name was A la Tete de Lard. As you all know Adam has this weird need to try unique food...well this place totally got even with his curiosity =)
First course, Adam ordered the Tete de Lard Salad. This consists of some lettuce with a mound of munster cheese, bologna tasting sausage, and what we can only describe as ham jello triangles. It was hilarious.
Mine was a traditional tarte de Flambee. It's a local pizza they are known for making. It's an extremely thin crust with a white sauce, cheese, mushrooms, bacon, and onions. It was delicious.
Next is the main course, this is where it gets good. Mine was the special of white fish wrapped in a phyllo dough on a bed of couscous.
Adam decided to try the local cuisine of Kidney. It looks easy enough to eat, but it was in a mustard sauce and smelled a little like pee, so not so easy after all. He gave his best effort to eat as much as possible but the look on his face as he ate was more of a I might throw up on you look. He gave it his best shot but only put down half the plate.

After lunch, we wandered around some more. We hit up the house the Napoleon used to live in, Palais de Rohan. I believe it is now a government building.
We also headed up inside the tower of the Notre-Dame Cathedral. They say you can see over into Germany to the Black Forest. Of course that's probably without all the fog. It was a beautiful view of the city.

The sun was setting and it was getting colder so we opted to head over and get a tea or coffee at a local Pastry shop. They have a restaurant upstairs and the chocolates and desserts are downstairs. It was nice to get in out of the cold and sit down. We rested for awhile then went out to walk around again until it was time to catch the train home. We both wanted to get a unique french dessert while we were there. Adam got a Merengue at the coffee shop, but I had seen something else. My absolute favorite place in Paris is Paul's Boulangerie. They have the best chocolate macaroons. Well as we were walking around we ran across a Paul's so Adam and I went back a got a couple of macaroons for our train ride home. They were just as delicious as I remember.
