Italy Road Trip part 3 - All day picking

Monday morning of our olive adventure we woke up and had breakfast together. We needed all the energy we could for a whole day of picking ahead of us. We didn't actually get into the fields till around 10 and not long after that Wolfgang showed up with another couple that was picking to make us take a break. He brought a bottle of Vin Santo and some Cantucci. He explained that the old farmers would dip the cantucci in the Vin Santo wine and then eat the cantucci. Then when they would show up at home drunk their wives would be angry for them drinking in the fields, and they would say " The cantucci drank the wine and I ate the cantucci."

He taught us about the history of the area, mostly Sardinians who migrated. They are a rougher crowd and stick together. He said they used to kidnap people and hold them for ransom. He's had a neighbor come over and threaten him after his animals went missing. Our quiet, laid back German friend all of a sudden started threatening him back and saying he would kill him. So unexpected from Wolfgang. Of course at this point we are all thinking wow...we really picked a great area to hangout in!! This of course happened many years ago but still quite a violent past.

So after our break with Wolfgang we got back to work. Adam was working up top on a ladder and thought he has secured the ladder on the ground. Well that's a big fat no!! The ladder was on the net and ended up slipping and crashing to the ground with Adam attached. He wasn't hurt except for a raspberry on his arm. So after that he made sure the ladder wasn't on the net. We kept picking the rest of the afternoon, then headed back to our apartment to clean the olives and get ready for dinner.

Our pickins for the day and Mike making sure we didn't forget any olives.

We decided to head to Perugia for dinner that night. Bryan had a recommendation from the NY times 36 hours in Perugia.

We ate at Osteria Priori and it was AMAZING!! We started off with meat and cheese plates. Then got a first course of pasta, and a second course of meat. My first course was a ravioli with chickpeas and ricotta which was awesome, and Adam's first was tagliatelle with veal in a white sauce. My second course was veal and polenta, and adam had the pork with truffles and potatoes. This was probably one of our best meals in Italy.

Me and Adam..Mike left the table for this picture taking fiasco

Best meat and cheese plate I have ever had

After dinner we had to walk around. We weren't sure when or if we would be back so we saw what we could stand in the cold. We also needed to walk off some of that dinner.

Who wants to walk down the creepy tunnel

A balcony we found in the city center
They boys decided to run up and play on the balcony while April and I were freezing
